About the Step-up SIP Calculator
A step-up SIP (also called a top-up SIP) increases your monthly SIP by a fixed percentage every year, usually in line with salary hikes. This calculator shows the total invested, estimated returns and how much extra you build compared with a flat SIP.
How to use this calculator
- Enter your starting monthly SIP.
- Set the yearly step-up, for example 10% if your income rises about that much each year.
- Enter the expected annual return and the number of years.
- Compare the total with the flat-SIP figure shown in the note below the results.
Formula
The SIP is compounded month by month. At the start of each new year the monthly amount is multiplied by (1 + step-up %). The calculator adds up every instalment and its growth to give the final value.
Example
Starting at ₹10,000 a month, stepping up 10% a year for 15 years at an assumed 12% return, you invest ₹38,12,698 and the estimated value is ₹86,83,849. A flat ₹10,000 SIP would reach about ₹50.46 lakh, so stepping up adds roughly ₹36.38 lakh.
Frequently asked questions
What step-up percentage should I choose?
Many people match it to expected salary growth, often 5% to 15% a year. Choose a rate you can keep up comfortably.
Can I set up a step-up SIP with my mutual fund?
Most fund houses and investment apps offer a top-up or step-up option when you register a SIP. Check with your fund or platform.
Why does a small step-up make such a big difference?
Each increase is invested for the remaining years and compounds on top of the earlier instalments, so the effect builds up over long periods.
