Year-by-year breakdown

About the Lumpsum Calculator

A lumpsum is a single, one-time investment left to grow. This compounding calculator shows the future value of a lumpsum and how many times your money multiplies, with the compounding frequency of your choice.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the amount you invest once.
  2. Set the expected annual return.
  3. Choose the number of years and how often returns compound.
  4. See the total value and the year-by-year growth.

Formula

A = P × (1 + r/f)^(f × t), where P is the amount invested, r is the annual rate, f is how many times a year interest compounds and t is the number of years.

Example

₹1,00,000 invested for 10 years at an assumed 12% compounded yearly grows to about ₹3,10,585, which is 3.11 times the original amount.

Frequently asked questions

What does compounding frequency change?

The more often returns compound, the slightly higher the final value, because returns start earning returns sooner.

Can I use this as a compound interest calculator?

Yes. Enter any amount, rate, period and compounding frequency to see compound interest growth.

What is the rule of 72?

Dividing 72 by the annual return gives a rough number of years for money to double. At 12% that is about 6 years.
