RD Calculator

Monthly bank deposit, compounded quarterly.

Year-by-year breakdown

About the RD Calculator

A recurring deposit (RD) lets you deposit a fixed amount every month and earn a fixed interest rate. This RD calculator shows the maturity value and total interest, using quarterly compounding as Indian banks typically do.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your monthly deposit.
  2. Enter the interest rate offered.
  3. Choose the tenure in years.
  4. See the maturity value and the yearly growth.

Formula

Each monthly instalment grows separately: instalment × (1 + r/400)^(months remaining ÷ 3). The maturity value is the sum for all instalments.

Example

Depositing ₹5,000 a month for 5 years at 6.8% means ₹3,00,000 deposited and a maturity value of about ₹3,57,771.

Frequently asked questions

RD or SIP: which is better?

An RD gives a fixed, known return with low risk. A SIP in mutual funds can earn more over long periods but returns are not guaranteed.

What happens if I miss an RD instalment?

Banks usually charge a small penalty for missed instalments. Rules vary by bank.

Is RD interest taxable?

Yes. RD interest is taxed at your slab rate, and TDS may apply.
